Case study: Selecting number of nights for hotel stay
By searching for your booking, we ask the guest for their name and number of nights of their stay.
“There is currently some confusion regarding the component used to select the number of nights for a stay. During a visit to an Oslo hotel, a guest attempting to check in appeared confused. The existing solution is a complex component that resembles a booking calendar.” – Product Owner

Hva er navnet, og hvor lenge blir du? Steg 1 og 2 av innsjekksflyten, der kalenderen for å velge avreisedato ikke er like intuitiv som først tenkt.

Redesign: When selecting the duration of the stay, users choose night by night; a brief explanatory text updates based on the number of nights selected, as some guests find it easier to relate to specific dates than to a count of nights.
Result - 2.5 seconds saved!
After switching to the "number of nights" component, we reduced the time spent on the screen from 8 seconds to 5.5 seconds.
Post-implementation assessment
Since our solutions are used by hotel guests staying anywhere from 1 to 30 nights, we decided to keep the calendar option available pending a future iteration; the "number of nights" component is not ideal for a guest staying for 30 nights.
